Saving the planet

Sometimes you have to say sorry, and last week we did just that.

A fantastic window of opportunity had opened a few weeks ago when we discovered that Michelle Cassar was coming down to Falmouth to talk about her fabulous children's book Seb and Polly Planet on their Ocean Quest.

So we rashly asked Eve Bourrat, the books' talented illustrator, and Michelle to extend their tour and visit our little gallery.

Michelle crowdfunded for the project to raise awareness of the plastic pollution crisis. A noble idea which will hopefully encourage younger generations to become actively involved in conserving the sea life and save the planet.

Since moving back to Cornwall, we have embraced the plastic clean up movement in the county ourselves. We always take a bag and gloves to the beach, and we regularly join plastic clearing meetups - because every little helps.

Our recycling ethos has also been firmly stamped on the gallery. We have implemented a sustainability policy; contracted local tradespeople to help with renovations; chosen a renewable energy power supplier; saved all the excess cardboard and plastic to be recycled as packaging for transporting paintings when they are sold. And we will be installing a 99% efficient electric boiler heating system to prevent heat loss and fumes.

Even the location of the gallery was a consideration in our consideration for the environment. Bike racks are stationed outside the building, and the gallery can be conveniently accessed by bus or train. It's also within walking and cycling distance from home for all the resident artists and creative businesses.

Firm believers in Michelle's cause we had scheduled a book reading and evening talk for The Writers Collective members on the 10th of February. However, our ambition got the better of us, and unfortunately, delays in the renovations meant we have had to cancel the event.

Needless to say, we are gutted, but we will still be supporting the dynamic duo on their other events and would like to invite you to do the same...
