Gallery showcases Local Authors

Gallery showcases Local Authors

It's that time of year again when we invite a group of local writers to takeover our gallery for a weekend. Last year's FRINGE Book Festival was a great success and although we hadn't initially thought about re-hosting the event in 2022 we were thrilled when, spearheaded by their members, The Writers Collective approached us to help out once again with a venue. The Writers Collective is a not-for-profit community of writers who host a unique free digital directory of specialist writers & services helps individuals and businesses realise their project in 2018. The collective also connects authors and helps promote local literary events and  new book releases....

A little bit of rebellion

A little bit of rebellion

In the summer, we heard the exciting news that a book festival would take place in Falmouth. As many of you know, we have stocked a variety of book genres from Cornish authors in the gallery shop, so we were keen to be involved. The Writers Collective has office space within our studios, and they were also keen to jump on the tails of the festival to highlight the talent of our local authors. The Collective has been trying to run a series of talks from our event space since 2019. However, COVID has called a halt to their plans on...

Ope' n' studios

Ope' n' studios

An eye-catching collection of work is cluttering the hallways of the gallery at the moment waiting to be hung, as our resident artists get ready for Open Studios Cornwall on the 29th August. One particular exclusive collection by Dave Pentin will be on show in the first-floor event space. A stunning series of seven images, Dave has been working hard to turn his long term fascination with the local passageways - Ope's - into a series of paintings specifically for the event.  Although found throughout the South-West, the word Ope is featured in the Cornish dictionary, as meaning an alley (between buildings). In Cornwall, Ope's typically sprung up in between workshops and houses...

A little help to make our business succeed...

It’s so lovely being part of a small community. And we are super lucky to be not only a part of a physical community in Penryn but also a few virtual online communities. The support we have received, particularly from fellow artists has been outstanding and little by little the word is spreading about what we do and where we are. In little over seven months, we have nearly reached a thousand followers on Instagram, almost four hundred followers on Facebook and just over a hundred followers on Twitter. It’s thanks to the great team behind us that our social...

It’s strange how a business evolves

It’s strange how a business evolves. When we opened the gallery, we knew we needed an online presence, not only for a place of contact but also because art sales through a web portal can significantly boost any business. However, we never anticipated that our online offering would be our sole source of sales and our biggest marketing tool. Now it seems our choice of website structure was invaluable. We had never used Shopify to build a website before. But after some substantial research, we decided that the clean relatively easy to adapt software was begrudgingly worth the $29 basic monthly...
