Kate has been living and working in Penwith since moving to Cornwall with her family 25 years ago.

Kate started exploring a career in art when studying sculpture and printmaking at Leeds University graduating in 1993 and has since been a practicing artist all her life. Three years ago Kate gave up work as a full time teacher to concentrate on her own work. And has since been lucky enough to become part of the PZ Studio collective and has exhibited with them on a number of occasions. Her work has also been selected for the St Ives Society of Artists open exhibitions and Penwith Gallery Associate Members exhibitions.

Kate is an abstract painter with a fascination for colour and texture. The natural land and seascapes of where she lives provide Kate with a rich and varied source of inspiration. And she finds that it's often the tiniest detail, such as rust coloured lichen on a gate, a piece of bright red driftwood on a beach, a foxglove pink swimming hat in a grey, grey sea, that inform her work. Equally, conversations with strangers, sunlight on the cliffs, shadows hitting a bucket, anything and everything can make its way into a piece of work.

When not out and about on the moors or the cliffs of Penwith with her 3 dogs, you'll find Kate working in her studio at The Exchange Gallery in Penzance.

Kate's exhibition will be on our gallery walls from 19 March - 15 April 12:00-16:00 Wednesday - Saturday and online for six months.
