Book Festival Fringe talks & events 18-20 OCTOBER 2024

We are delighted to be hosting a series of talks in association with The Writers Collective to coincide with The Falmouth Book Festival and have invited some talented Local Authors to let you into their world,  talk about themselves and their books as well as sign some books for you all.

Sponsored by T Austell Brewery, Hermitage Press and Terrace Gallery, the talks take place on Friday 18th, Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th of October in the private rooms upstairs in The Chain Locker Pub, Customs House Quay, Falmouth - refreshments available throughout the day. The location of the events changes according to the activity.

Wednesday 16th – Bookish quizz

Compiled by the infamous Chain Locker Quiz Master. You could win a worthy bar tab and bundles of books by local authors at the Chain Locker Pub, Customs House Quay. And all the proceeds go towards running the Fringe Book Festival. Kicks off at 7:00pm - £1 per person entry.

Friday 18th – Inspired by Cornwall

Talks by: Sue Kittow, Walks in the Footsteps series and two popular semi biographical books based in Cornwall

Rob Magnusun Smith, Seaweed Rising, a modern, contemporary fiction which has a narrative theme and touches on environmental issues.  

Lisa Wollett, Lost to the Sea, a fascinating alternative history of the the eroded edges of Britain & Ireland.

Helen Trevaskis, Hope for Cornwall, a beautifully illustrated a book which tackles the housing crisis.

EVENT: Poetry workshop run by Ella w Bell the force behind the Mor Poets collective, and highly successful swim/surf poetry collections Morvoren & Mordardh.

Saturday 19th – Short Story magic

Talks by: Tracey Dockree and The Cornish Writers will introduce their third anthology - Cornwall Beneath and Beyond - an eclectic collection of short stories which capture the essence of the Cornish spirit beneath windswept cliffs, beyond ancient ruins and embedded in the mysterious folklore of the county

Emma Timpany and Sarah Jane Humphrey - Botanical Short Stories - a rich and wide-ranging collection of contemporary writing which celebrates the deep connection that exists between people and plants in fourteen short stories, as varied, diverse, and global as the botanical world itself.

Hermitage press and authors - Twelve Stories for Twelve Sections - an anthology of short fiction by 12 Cornish authors whose stories are inspired by the 12 Sections of Cornwall's protected landscape.

EVENT: Read between the wines - Hosted by author and co-founder of the Stranger Collective, Clare Howdle, will take you on a wine tour with literary accents at Falmouth’s best cafe - Espressini**

Sunday 20th - Crime & Passion

Talks by: Bex Hogan, author of the Black Heat, The Viper and Bronte Tempestra series, will introduce her latest book Nettle - a heart wrenching tale of danger, deception and mystery in a strange world.

Anita Hunt, short story writer and debut novelist of Behind The Curtain - a newly released heart pounding domestic Noir thriller. 

Jo Jakeman, author of Safe House, Sticks and Stones,The Exes Revenge and What his Wife knew introduces her new book One Bad Apple - a twist and wickedly funny murder mystery

EVENTS: An hour long Crime & Passion inspired Shut up and Write session for budding authors by Paula Winzar and Roz Watkins. Books to be awarded to the most promising story.

2hr long Sketching session around the historic location of The Chain Locker with 13 Cornish Ghost Stories illustrator, Derek Hayes, Dave Pentin and the Penryn Urban Sketchers.

Crime & Passion panel discussion with the widely published Roz Watkins, Liz Fenwick etc.
