Suzie Inman - Writers Collective talk - 02/12/2020
Grappling with history
A professional copywriter and communications expert with more than 20 years experience Suzie helps companies across the public, private and third sectors to shape and distribute their message and connect with their customers. She’s always had a keen interest in and involvement with heritage, producing interpretation boards, web content and publications for numerous projects in the North West and in Cornwall, including a number of local town trails.
Suzie is a member of the talent pool at Stranger Collective and also act as a PR and Copywriting consultant for The Happy Seven. She has a Masters in Professional Writing (with distinction) and her skills include copywriting, content marketing, social media, press releases, communications, content, marketing mix, marketing for SMEs, Web updates, researching and writing blogs, proofreading, and storytelling.
Suzie has completed historical research to produce factual town trails and other articles, as well as penning creative responses to true-life stories. She’s currently delving into the rabbit hole of history and fairground to research Victorian Blackpool to feed into her first novel.
Whether you’re using the past to create a factual document, or using it as inspiration for a fictional one; there are a whole host of issues around availability and reliability of sources, the need for fact-checking and for tactfully challenging clients’ accepted theories.
From reading between the lines to filling in the gaps, Suzie talks about accuracy versus artistic licence; knowing when to stop reading and start writing; and how sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction.
These events are FREE to Collective members, £2.50 for students and £5 for all others. Refreshments will be available.
