As well as being inspired by the beautiful\u003cbr\u003elandscapes and coast around her, many of her works reflect her long interest in\u003cbr\u003ethe connections between our ancestors and modern humans, the many traces\u003cbr\u003eleft behind on or under the earth, scars, routes and barriers.\u003cbr\u003eLouise does not aim to replicate the landscape in her work but to find a sense\u003cbr\u003eof place, responding to observations, sketches, photos, objects, memories,\u003cbr\u003eemotions, weather. Louise uses a variety of mediums to build up layers -\u003cbr\u003ecollage papers, acrylics, oils, charcoal, ink, graphite – often combining many of\u003cbr\u003ethese in one work. She likes to scratch and draw into the surface to give\u003cbr\u003edelicate and robust marks that reflect a landscape’s history. Working\u003cbr\u003eintuitively, Louise will often imagine a landscape using elements from her\u003cbr\u003eobservations and research to create an image, a synthesis.
